A whole new generation of Ferrari V8-engined berlinettas

Ferrari F430, a concentrate of technology for sports road use

Presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2004, the aggressive appearance of the Pininfarina designed Ferrari F430 designed speaks of its vocation for performance. With its aluminium chassis, the F430 is the technological synthesis of the experience gained in the victorious Formula 1 era of the 2000s.

We can see this in the introduction of the world's first electronically controlled differential and the so-called 'manettino' on the steering wheel, which has become a distinctive element in Prancing Horse cars, allowing the driver to operate the dynamic control systems like a Formula 1 single-seater.

A car still capable of evoking unique driving emotions, available as certified by the Ferrari Approved pre-owned programme, also thanks to the compact eight-cylinder aspirated 4308 cm3 engine, credited with a maximum power of 490 hp at 8500 rpm and a torque of 465 Nm at 5250 rpm, 80% of which is already available at 3500 rpm.

The electronically controlled differential derived from Formula 1

The Ferrari F430 saw the introduction of the electronic differential E-Diff, a technological solution for the best possible traction when exiting curves, avoiding any time lost due to skidding. On the road, the adoption of E-Diff means better grip, all to the benefit of the very highest level of driving pleasure.

Vehicle dynamics within reach of the 'manettino'

In the Ferrari F430, the driver can directly influence the dynamics of the car by using the so-called 'manettino', an innovative selector positioned directly on the steering wheel. A feature closely derived from the world of Formula 1 that allows the fastest possible adjustment of driving functions.

The ‘manettino' enables management of the electronic applications related to trim, stability control and traction through five different settings in increasing order of sportiness (from ICE, with severe performance limitations and suitable for conditions with very low grip, to CST, with traction control and stability disabled).

The aerodynamics of the Ferrari F430

The aerodynamic development of the Ferrari F430 was conducted using the same criteria as the Prancing Horse single-seaters of the time. The result is 50% more downforce than in the previous model: 45 kg more aerodynamic load at 200 km/h compared to 360 Modena, 85 kg more at 300 km/h, for an overall value of 280 kg. The diffuser is a particular feature, characterised by flow diverters similar to those present on F1 single-seaters and capable of extracting a greater volume of air from the lower part of the car, producing a high intensity vacuum for greater grip.
